There is a saying in Taiwanese idiom, "A peanut as a snack for you mother is much better than offering her a whole pig at her grave." Nope, it's not encouraging you to be skimpy to your parents. It means that you should show your appreciation and gratitude to them whenever is possible.
It's interesting when people go through all the trouble and plan something amazing for Mother's Day or Father's Day. Don't get me wrong. It's nice that they like to show how much they love their parents. But I always wonder if they also make the effort to show this affection daily. It reminds me of one scene from Modern Family. Jay regrated that he never said 'I love you' to his father. He cried and said, "But he must know about it, right? He knew I love him."
Well, we will never know.
